Silver gilt 1 oz Libertad vintage 2023 in top finish with mythological figure Jesus Malverde.
Data sheet
Jesus Malverde was originally from Yoreme and Spain. He is a "Robin Hood" character who was supposed to take from the rich and give to the poor. Some people in Mexico and the United States, including drug traffickers, celebrate him as a folk saint.
Malverde's existence is not historically verified.
Malverde is said to have been a carpenter, tailor or railroad worker. It was only when his parents died of starvation or a curable disease, depending on the version of the story, that Jesús Malverde began the life of a bandit. His nickname Malverde ( 'bad-green') was given to him by his rich victims, coming from the association between green and the misfortune he caused them.
According to the mythology of Malverde's life, he had a long-running duel with Francisco Cañedo, the governor of Sinaloa, whom he thought was mistreating the poor. Once, Francisco mockingly offered Malverde mercy if he could steal his sword (or, in some versions, his daughter's). He is believed to have died in Sinaloa on May 3, 1909.
