Hanging portraits painted by Rembrandt Van Rijn on the occasion of the marriage of Maerten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit in 1634. In 2016 they went from the Rothschild collection to the joint ownership of France and the Netherlands. Belle-epreuve design (PROOF).
Data sheet
These are the only known full-length portraits of Rembrandt in life size, a style then reserved for the highest European nobility; they probably reflect the couple's desire to assert their social status. Although the portraits were painted individually, they were fortunate enough to have never been separated since the 17th century. According to the agreement between France and the Netherlands, they must therefore always be exhibited together.
Supplied in capsule and case. Monnaie de Paris certificate as a matter of course.
