The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris is a Gothic cathedral in the heart of the French capital, on the island of Île de la Cité. Built in the twelfth century, its stained-glass windows, gargoyles, and flying buttresses have inspired many literary works, such as the novels of Victor Hugo.

Since 1945, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has maintained a list of sites as "World Heritage Sites". The aim of this programme is to classify, name and preserve so-called cultural or natural assets important for the common heritage of humanity.
On the front side, in the foreground, a stonemason from the Middle Ages, symbolizing the craftsmen who built the cathedral. In the background, the left part of the cathedral is shown in detail and the right part, as well as the tower, in a schematic line of the building evoking its construction/reconstruction.
The reverse side is common to all coins from the UNESCO series of this year 2025. On the left, it represents the globe with parallels and meridians, and on the right, the inscriptions of the main UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These inscriptions are as if engraved in stone, which is an echo of the Rosetta Stone. The left part of the globe is surrounded by the UNESCO logo and the "World Heritage" label.
